CBU FILM & BROADCAST STUDIOS + SITEWORK
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY
Riverside, California
This project transforms a dated CMU classroom lab into a cutting-edge, technology-driven film and television broadcast studio. Bold, simple forms define a new entry that complements the existing architecture while providing shading from the western sun, enhancing comfort and energy efficiency. A seismically and acoustically separated addition improves structural performance and sound isolation, meeting both safety and performance standards.
At its core are two state-of-the-art studios—a green screen Studio and LED Studio—supported by a 10-rack technical operations center and a six-station control and sound suite, creating a fully integrated broadcast environment. Surrounding support spaces, including a green room, editing bays, equipment storage, and public restrooms, are arranged to optimize workflow and encourage collaboration. Large glass doors connect each suite across a central hallway, reinforcing visual and operational connectivity.
Designed for flexibility and future adaptability, the facility accommodates evolving media technologies and production techniques, allowing students and faculty to experiment with emerging tools and formats. Its spatial and technical design fosters creativity, hands-on learning, and professional-level experience, serving both the campus community and external collaborators. This transformation establishes a visible, functional, and inspiring hub for media production, positioning the program at the forefront of contemporary broadcast education.
