THE BRIDGE CHURCH
CHINO, CALIFORNIA
Spanning an elongated, linear site, the design responds to complex entitlement process and master planning constraints, while preserving required open space and integrating required parking. The resulting parti strategically positions the Church Sanctuary and Event Center as the compositional and programmatic anchor, with the high school, multipurpose gymnasium, Sunday school classrooms, and administrative offices terminating each end of the axis. This bar-like organization enables discrete circulation networks, allowing independent drop-off and pick-up zones that alleviate congestion at each major entry point.
Architecturally, the massing draws from the region’s agrarian vernacular, reinterpreting familiar barn typologies through a contemporary lens. Simple gabled and barn-like volumes are abstracted and refined, employing clean lines, articulated roof planes, and a restrained material palette to create a sense of warmth and strength. These elevated forms hover above the landscape, to create a dramatic visual that won over the planning commission vote 5 out of 5, on the first presentation!
A series of pedestrian bridges and walkways connects the campus, creating clear and intuitive circulation, reflecting the church’s namesake. This network unifies the campus while supporting both efficient movement and a cohesive architectural identity.
