THE HUB CAFE RENOVATION
THE GROVE COMMUNITY CHURCH
Riverside, California

This project reimagined a previously crowded, dark, and outdated hallway along with an underutilized covered patio, transforming them into a vibrant, welcoming gathering space at the heart of the church campus. Positioned at a major crossroads within the building, the renovated area is now filled with natural light, warm finishes, color, and texture, creating an inviting environment that encourages social interaction and community engagement.

By opening exterior walls and enclosing the existing patio with expansive glazing, the design establishes a seamless visual and physical connection to the outdoor baptismal plaza. This integration blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors, allowing the café to celebrate and activate the exterior space while providing flexible seating and gathering areas. Thoughtful furnishings, circulation, and sightlines encourage both small group conversation and larger communal gatherings.

The Hub Café and Coffee Bar has become the primary social center on campus, supporting fellowship, collaboration, and informal learning. Its central location and enhanced visibility make it a dynamic destination for students, faculty, and visitors alike, reinforcing the sense of community while connecting the building’s interior spaces to the beauty and spirituality of the surrounding outdoor environment.
